RAD Part I - Instrumentis Classicallis Humorosous

A COLLECTION OF "CLASSICAL" WORKS (with Liner Notes) BY RICK A DUNCAN
All works performed on a Roland XV-88 except #6 which also features Mari Duncan on a real flute. All works written on an old Encore 3.0 music program sent to me some dozen years or so ago by one John Clancy. This "no-frills" program fits easily on my work computer and enables me to claim that I get paid to compose. So thanks again, John. - RAD     September, 2006

Shauna Rae Symphonic This is an orchestration of a song I wrote the night my little girl was bored, er, born.

Guitar Concerto in 3 Movements. Written at work over 3 months, just to see if I could. The themes are original, but the style is "borrowed". (22MB, 23:17)

Xmas Mudley Written for Mari’s woodwind quintet for a Christmas concert. Got one performance which is the only part of the concert which did NOT get recorded. It’s full of little musical jokes, such as playing "Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer" against "Little Brown Jug How I love Thee", explaining the cause of the red nose. (5MB, 4:32)

Sweet and Low This is a Rolling Stones song disguised as a piano piece. Can you guess which one? (2MB, 1:40)

Nicht Fur Elise This is a musical parody of the Beethoven original. (3.7MB, 3:13)

Answering Machine When I got my first answering machine, I put a song/message on it with these lyrics:
Oh yes, we finally went and got ourselves an answering machine
It’s something that we thought we’d never do to our phone
So if you want to leave a message and it’s not too obscene
We’ll try to call you back when we get home
The tune stuck with me for years so I did something with it here. . (2.2MB, 1:54)

Flute Sonata in 3 movements I wrote this for Mari, thinking we’d find someone to play the piano part (not me!) so she could perform it. The only problem was, we didn’t. So Mr. Roland had to do it here. (13MB, 11:05)

Wise Acres,
Archie,
Gomez,
The Andy Variations ,
I got into writing variations on old T.V. show themes. Very bizarre. These are unedited and went onto the score exactly as you hear them. The "Andy" one somehow combines the theme with the opening notes of Mozart’ s "The Marriage of Figaro" Don’t ask me how that happened. (4MB, 2MB, 3MB, 6MB | 3:26, 2:27, 1:36, 4:57)

Twenty One I wish I could say that 21 refers to something deep, but since the measures count 5-5-5-6 in each phrase, it’s just adding them up.

No Account This is a piano piece distortion of my song "Accountability"

Octo An experiment in octaves. Impossible to do on one piano

Rotate Like "Sweet and Low", a warped version of the Byrds "Turn, Turn, Turn"

Sis Boom Bah

I wrote a lousy song for my sister, but turned it into a decent waltz instead.

Violin piece for Right Hand Ravel wrote a piano concerto for the left hand for a friend that lost his right arm. I wondered if it might be possible to do that for a violinist. To perform this, you must tie a violin to a chair, and your left arm behind your back. Then have at it on the open strings.
