Recorded in 1978, Sister's Lament was written by Jeff McLane, who also played bass, doubleneck electric, Moog Taurus Bass Pedals, Acoustic Guitar, Flute and background vocals. I first met Jeff when we both joined Rich Hunter's Solstice Mark II in the summer of 1974. Jeff left Solstice, shortly after joining, later in 1974 when an unexpected opportunity presented itself to join the Cast of a Thousand, an established all original prog rock band based in Newbury Park, CA. Cast of a Thousand created complex yet melodic pieces, and showcased a number of talented musicians as it's line up evolved during the 1970's. At the time of this recording, Cast of a Thousand also included Marcus Ryle on keyboards (ARP 2600, Orchestron, Piano, Hammond B3 Organ), Sam Flores on percussion and background vocals, and Chris Wolley* on lead vocals and glockenspiel.

In addition to his work with Cast of a Thousand, Jeff McLane also worked with Carlysle artists The Cigarettes, formed a Hollywood, CA based sound reinforcement company called COAT Sound in the 1970's, and later worked as a recording engineer with a variety of artists, known and unknown alike, before vanishing mysteriously in the late 1980's or very early 1990's. Rumors began forming soon after the disapperance, and have continued to this day, some involving some of his high profile clients, and the federal witness protection program, although no proof has ever materialized. Recently, archive material has become available, including solo works, outtakes and rarities from his years spent behind the recording console. More of this material will be posted to this site, once proper credits can be identified and authenticity has been verified. Stay Tuned.

* Interestingly, just prior to meeting Jeff in 1974, I had left a prog rock cover band called Geppetto that had also featured Chris Wolley on lead vocals. Chris met Jeff and joined Cast of a Thousand a few years later, so we did not recognize the coincidence at the time.
