RAD Part II - Songerus Prolifourus Vox Parodiseus
Rick A Duncan was influenced by CSNY,
The Who, The Beatles, Mozart & Beethoven.
But - and this is strictly my own opinion -
somewhere along the line he got severely corrupted by the
likes of
Tom Lehrer ,
Alan Sherman ,
and most certainly
PDQ Bach.
As talent & perseverance would have it, he has actually been very successful in that
Universe, having often shared a stage with those very artists on the
Dr Demento
radio program, among others. I personally found the classical influenced sections
on RAD I very interesting and surprisingly polished,
but the traditional RAD humor that he has built his career on
is represented mightily in the 25 selections here on RAD II. Enjoy! - Clancy September, 2006
NOTE: All flute and piccolo work, some backing vocals, by Mari Duncan.

Pinlad.
What if Pete Townsend had done "popular opera" just a few years earlier?
Way Too Many Times.
A good natured slam at country music. Features Greg Newlon on lead
guitar.

Sorry
A song I wrote after a fight with the wife.

Save You a Seat By the Fire
This is what you answer when someone tells you to go
to Hell. Mari on vocals and organ.

Postcard
One of my favorites.
Pop-up Momma
This is an Irish ballad for modern times.
Onward
Usually I have lyrics first. This one was a riff
in 9/4 that I played without words. I used the
Philo method of writing the lyrics quickly before I
recorded, not even knowing what the heck I was
talking about. Later, two different people
said they understood it perfectly. I still don’t
know what it’s about.

The Best Time of My Life (retitled - Editor)
On those dumb postcards, we are all fat
and happy forever. Wake up, Hallmark! This is
what we are like in the real world. (-Edited)

Offbeat
This was hard to do, I wrote out every note because I
wanted to make sure I didn’t accidentally sing on
a beat. Of course, as a singer, I rarely hit on
a note accurately anyway.

Night On the Town
I’m not sure I want this one posted, but it’s one of
my old favorites. I wrote it when I was in the hospital for
four days. You decide.

The Malls Are Starting To Stink Like Christmas
Another favorite. I love the synth riff that
barrels through the whole thing.
Just the Way I Pray
I say if you talk it, walk it. I don’t mind hard core
religious people if they live by their beliefs.
This song is about one of the phonies that are all too
common.

The Little Bookstore
Sad how corporations and progress are taking over all the small quaint
businesses of our past. Can you believe the violin solo was only one take?

Lou Quest, the Rudest Nudist
I told Mari I was going to write a song about
this subject. She said "Fine, but you’ll never
be able to play it anywhere." We not only played it
on two radio stations, but it gets big laughs everywhere.
Except at nudist camps.

Love those attention-getting titles

Hole in the Ozone
All about how people whine about little stupid things
when the whole world is doomed. Think how much
more people would appreciate life if it were
possible for us to actually die.

Gridlock
This is one of the few times I actually "tried"
to write a hit. Worked like a charm. Almost
no one has heard it.

Foul Weather Friend
This is my official break-up with Mari song, and the last I have
written and recorded in 2006. First use of my cello in a recording.
The whole thing was written, played, sung and burned to
a CD in two hours.

Fat Girls
I wouldn’t write a song like this today. But it’s sort of one
of my classics, with a 11/8 intro and Dave Chrenko singing in it.

Big Ass
A new favorite to play live. Women love the punch line.
The Bulge
Another one like the other one.
Someone came up to me and said "You don’t have a very
high opinion about women, do you?" Hey lady, I write
from various points of view, not all of them my own!
I have a very high opinion of women. Boy, was that broad stupid.
